CONFERENCE
OUT OF THE BOX
BRUSSELS, 5 SEPTEMBER 2013

Organised by the Vlaams Theater Instituut, as part of the SPACE programme, in Brussels.

What is the role of art in the public space? What motivates an artist to work in the public space? The conference, organised by the VTI during the 2013 Flemish Theatre Festival, in collaboration with Het Theatrefestival, Kaaitheater and SPACE will provide an opportunity for an exchange of views between European artists, theorists and professionals on these issues and more generally on the notion of public space from an artistic and social point of view.
After an opening address by Sodja Lotker, artistic director of the Prague Quadrennial and one of the curators of the European Space programme, the conference will continue with contributions from artists John Jordan, Willi Dorner and Claudia Bosse, and then a debate chaired by Chris Keulmans. The day will end with a choice of breakout sessions on specific topics.
The conference runs from 9.30 am to 5 pm.
A programme of productions will run alongside the conference, including Agoraphobia by Lotte van den Berg, Book Burning by Pieter de Buysser & Hans Op de Beeck, or DOMO DE EUROPA HISTORIO IN EKZILO by Thomas Bellinck.
